John Mackey was the mischievous kid on the next block of Elkhart Ave. He tried to teach me how to play poker , throw snowballs at teenage driver's cars (and live to tell about it) , and convince our 3rd grade teacher we should leave at 11:30 for lunch instead of 12 noon while at Cumberland. Later , fall 1967, he showed up at UWM as the President of his pledge class for a popular social fraternity. I felt that John had matured and was going to have a nice life with his upbeat personality. He's another person who left us way too soon.
